Reduce waiting between handovers.

A development team cannot deliver independently if every environment, release or access request becomes a separate process. Platform engineering treats shared capabilities as an internal product. It starts with how teams work, rather than a portal or another collection of tools.

Code, configuration and operations belong to the same platform.

What the support involves.

Understand the path from code to production

Work with developers and operators to identify where work stalls. Which steps are repeatable, which exceptions are justified and who makes decisions? Scope the first improvement around a concrete task, such as provisioning an environment or delivering a release.

Build a useful supported path

A supported standard path describes how a team builds, deploys and operates an application. Pipelines, templates, identity, logging and documentation fit together. Self-service lets teams complete tasks within agreed boundaries; an additional interface is useful only when it simplifies the work.

Test adoption and ownership

Use and refine the first version with a team. Agree who maintains the platform, who owns applications and how exceptions are handled. Feedback, error messages and recovery instructions form part of delivery. Kubernetes can be included, but is not a prerequisite.

Concrete deliverables.

The whole platform does not need to be built at once. The first engagement covers an agreed development journey. Further teams and capabilities follow evidence from use.

  • A scoped development journey with bottlenecks and responsibilities.
  • Reusable pipelines or templates for the selected task.
  • Documentation, operational agreements and a trial with the team.

The connection to practice.
